Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is one of the most effective tools we have for treating opioid and certain other substance use disorders. At Suncoast Family Urgent Care & Wellness Center, our MAT-certified addiction medicine providers use a structured, individualized approach to help you move toward stability and recovery.
MAT is about improving safety, reducing cravings, and supporting long-term change—not about “substituting one addiction for another.”
What Is MAT?
MAT uses FDA-approved medications, combined with counseling and behavioral support, to:

Commonly used MAT medications (depending on the condition and individual) may include medications such as buprenorphine-based therapies, among others—always chosen and dosed based on your unique needs.
How Our MAT Program Works

Together, we discuss whether MAT is right for you and which medication options may be appropriate. - Induction (Starting Medication)
Under medical supervision, you begin MAT and are closely monitored for comfort and safety. - Stabilization
Doses are adjusted as needed to reduce cravings and withdrawal without causing over-sedation. - Maintenance & Counseling Support
Over time, we focus on building routines, addressing triggers, and connecting you with counseling, therapy, or support groups. - Ongoing Review
We regularly reassess your progress, goals, and MAT plan, including the possibility of eventual tapering when appropriate.

MAT works best when combined with emotional and behavioral support, such as:
